Why the stops run in this order

The plan puts the long drives at each end of the day and keeps everything in between short. Once you’re up, every stop sits around Brinchang and Kea Farm. The longest hop, from lunch at OK Tuck to Kea Farm market, is about 6 min by car, 4 km1.

Big Red Strawberry Farm is within walking distance of Brinchang town3, so it’s an easy first stop after the climb. Kea Farm market sells fresh vegetables and fruit, including strawberries and sweet corn3. A private day tour sold on Lokalee gives the market 30 minutes4.

The BOH Tea Centre (Sungei Palas Garden) comes last, about 3 min by car, 3 km1 from the market. How long you stay there depends on the tour you pick:

BOH tour at Sungei Palas How long Price
Tea tasting and factory tour
1 hour5
RM50 per person, minimum 2 people5
Tea tasting, factory tour and plantation walk
2 hours5
RM100 per person, minimum 4 people5

BOH’s tour prices exclude 6% sales tax5. For the gardens themselves, see the Sungai Palas tea garden visiting guide.

Monday closures to plan around

The BOH tea gardens are the one stop in this plan with a closing day. Big Red Strawberry Farm (Mon–Sun), OK Tuck (Mon–Sun) and Kea Farm market (Mon–Sun2) all list every day of the week.

How long is the drive from KL?

The drive from Kuala Lumpur to Big Red Strawberry Farm takes about 2 h 40 min by car1, with no traffic. The way back from BOH takes about 2 h 50 min1, also routed without traffic.

Buses from Terminal Bersepadu Selatan to Tanah Rata take about 4½ hours3, so for a single day a car or a tour from KL leaves you more time at the stops. For buses, trains and routes in full, see getting from KL to the highlands.

If you come up without a car, these get you between the stops:

  • Tourist buses run every two hours from Tanah Rata, stopping in Brinchang, Kea Farm, Tringkap and Kuala Terla3.
  • The tourist bus fare is about RM2–5, and you can ask the driver to drop you anywhere along the main road3.
  • Taxis at Tanah Rata bus station cost RM25 per hour6, and since most drivers don’t use the meter, fares are negotiable3.

Day tours from KL, or a local tour?

A day tour from Kuala Lumpur takes the driving off your hands. These leave from KL and come back the same day:

If you’re already in the highlands, operators in Tanah Rata run their own trips. Discover Camerons’ full-day tour costs RM110 per adult (checked October 2026) and lasts about 6–7 hours7. Its prices don’t include meals, entrance fees or insurance, and transport covers only Tanah Rata to Kea Farm7. More options are in the guide to compare day tours and packages.

Easy add-ons near Kea Farm market

If you have time left near the market, these are close by:

  • Flora Park is a 6-minute walk from Kea Farm Market, and shuttle buses run from its parking area9 to the park.
  • The Sheep Sanctuary is at Kea Farm Market, behind Kea Valley Hotel and opens daily10.
  • Ee Feng Gu Honey Bee Farm is about 1 min by car, 0.7 km1 from the market, and entry is free3.
  • For more stalls and local produce, check the agro market opening hours and fees.
  • Tokyo Town has its own page: the Japan town attraction guide.

Before you set off

  1. Pick a day other than Monday

BOH's tea gardens close on Mondays, except on school and public holidays.

  2. Decide how you'll get up

Drive about 2 h 40 min from KL or book a day tour; buses take about 4½ hours.

  3. Choose your BOH tour

The tea tasting and factory tour costs RM50 per person, minimum 2 people, plus 6% sales tax.

  4. Pack a warm layer

Daytime temperatures seldom go above 25 °C, and nights can drop as low as 12 °C.

Questions people ask

Which day tour should I book?

Wikivoyage says the tour packages are all very similar in content and price, and that most of what a tour includes can be done on your own.

Can I cycle or ride a motorbike between the stops?

BOH Tea says bicycles can be rented but the hills make cycling hard, and motorbike rentals are rare.
