The Mossy Forest is a cloud forest at 2,032 m2, known for its carpets of moss4. Its official name is Taman Eko Rimba (TER) Mossy Forest5. It lies in the Batu Gangan Permanent Forest Reserve6.
You explore it on an elevated boardwalk, and sources put its length at 200 to 300 m7. Don’t rush it: Wikivoyage says to expect to spend a considerable amount of time1 exploring.
The Mossy Forest’s listed hours are Mon–Sun 09:00–16:008 (checked October 2026), from its Google Maps listing. Hours differ by source, though: Excellent Transport, which sells tickets, gives last entry at 4pm and closing at 5pm2. Arrive well before the earlier closing time and you’re covered either way.
| Ticket | Adult | Child |
|---|---|---|
| Malaysian visitors | RM10 | RM5 (under 12) |
| Non-Malaysian visitors | RM30 | RM15 (under 12) |

The child rate is for children under 122. The child band varies by source: Century Pines Resort gave ages 6–12, as of 20237, so bring proof of age if your child is close to either limit.
Go to Brinchang town, then up the summit road by registered jeep or on a half-day tour. Private cars are stopped at a checkpoint2.
Brinchang town is the starting point for Gunung Brinchang, and it’s about 4 km1 from Tanah Rata. From Brinchang, a 12 km winding road10 climbs to the summit. Jalan Gunung Brinchang is a single-lane paved road11, so expect slow going.

Not in your own car: only registered 4WD jeep taxis can drive up to the summit2, says Excellent Transport, and TAHAN Outdoor agrees that you cannot drive yourself12 there. The odd one out is Century Pines Resort, which only says a 4WD is recommended2.
For the jeep, Pelago advises taking a local, approved jeep up to the Nova Highlands Hotel13, and the travel guide cameron.com.my adds that only registered jeeps may carry on up the narrow road14.
You don’t need a car at all, since the last stretch is by jeep or tour anyway. From Kuala Lumpur it’s three legs:
Buses leave Terminal Bersepadu Selatan between 8:30AM and 3:30PM, take about 4½ hours and cost RM48. Public buses also run from Tapah, which links to the railway at Tapah Road.
Brinchang is about 4 km from Tanah Rata, the main tourist town.
Take a registered jeep or a half-day Land Rover trip up the summit road.
Coming up from Tapah, you reach Ringlet, where the roads from Raub/Kuala Lipis and Tapah meet15 (Ringlet details). For fares and the other routes up, see getting up to the highlands by bus.
Half-day tours bundle the Mossy Forest with a tea estate and a strawberry farm. The half-day Land Rover trip from Oastel costs RM55 per person9 and stops at:
A similar tour from Discover Camerons visits the Boh tea plantation, the Mossy Forest/Mount Brinchang and a strawberry farm17. If the authorities close the Mossy Forest for maintenance, the company swaps that stop for a 1.5-hour hike17. Ask any operator what their plan is, given the recent landslides.

For most visitors, the boardwalk is the walk. The trail statuses below come from Wikivoyage and news reports, so ask locally before you set off.
| Trail | Route | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Trail 11 | From Brinchang to the 2,032 m peak, normally 2 to 2½ hours1 |
Closed by the government as of July 20191 |
| Trail 141 | Starts at the end of the Mossy Forest boardwalk1 |
Closed since 7 February 2018 because of landslides1 |
| Gunung Irau | The Mossy Forest sits at its foot4 |
Climbing allowed again when the park reopened in January 202518 |
The summit has an observation tower with views over the highlands and the Titiwangsa Range19. Summit access was no longer allowed as of October 20181, according to an old Wikivoyage note.
It’s worth it if you want a close look at a high cloud forest, as long as it’s open and you don’t mind crowds. Weigh these before you book:
The BOH tea estate is the easiest add-on. You can combine both visits on the same day, as the BOH Sungei Palas Tea Centre is on the same road2, and BOH says the estate is just off the road to Gunung Brinchang20. See the BOH Sungai Palas tea estate on the same road.
