The table lists homestays whose own listing or map entry calls them a homestay. It isn’t a ranking, and a price shows only where a booking site gave one.

Four homestay apartments to look at

All four are three-bedroom apartments in Brinchang or Tanah Rata. They’re shown in the same order as the table, not ranked.

What counts as a homestay in Cameron Highlands

The word covers a rented apartment and a village stay, and they make for very different trips.

• Apartment homestays. Hosts list whole flats as homestays, such as the Japandi homestay at Emerald Avenue Apartment⁴ in Brinchang.
• Village homestays. Kampung Taman Sedia is known for homestays run by the villagers themselves². This is the model behind MOTAC’s Malaysia Homestay Experience, which aims to raise rural living standards while guests experience Malaysian cultures, cuisines and traditions⁵.

Registering a homestay with the tourism ministry is voluntary, and a registered programme needs at least 10 houses⁵. So an apartment without a MOTAC registration isn’t breaking any rule.

Are there homestays in Kampung Taman Sedia?

Yes. Sinar Harian reported on 25 January 2019 that the village’s 17 homestays⁶ operate legally and are registered with MOTAC, quoting the village homestay association’s chairman.

None of the Taman Sedia houses are in the table above, so contact a host directly and confirm they still take guests before you travel.

Homestay prices: what a night costs

Weekend nights cost more: for stays on 19 to 25 October, the Friday and Saturday average was higher than the weekday one³ (checked October 2026).

Who a homestay suits, and who it doesn’t

A homestay apartment suits a group that wants one shared space and arrives by car. It suits people who want hotel service much less.

It works for:

• Families and groups: Clover Home’s Airbnb listing pitches its flat at families and groups⁷.
• Drivers: Asa & Mori has free parking on the premises⁴.
• Late arrivals: Clover Home uses self check-in with a lockbox⁸, so you don’t wait for a host.

Think twice if you want:

• Breakfast: Asa & Mori’s listing says breakfast is not provided⁹.
• A party weekend: one Brinchang listing turns away hen, stag and similar parties¹⁰.
• A host family and village life: pick a Taman Sedia house instead of a town flat.

Booking rules to check before you pay

Homestay rules sit in each listing, not in one standard. These come from a Brinchang apartment at Barrington Square sold as a Muslim homestay, and from Clover Home on Airbnb.

Before you pay, run through this in order:

1. Read the house rules for the check-in window and plan your drive up around it.
2. Ask when the damage deposit is due and how it comes back.
3. Ask whether tourist tax is added for foreign guests.
4. Confirm parking if you’re driving.

Brinchang or Tanah Rata: where the homestays are

The homestays in the table sit in Brinchang (Emerald Avenue) or Tanah Rata (Puncak Arabella), and the two towns are about 4 km¹² apart. Both are in Pahang¹², so a short drive links them.

• Brinchang is the highest of the three towns¹³. The Golden Hills night market runs Friday and Saturday, 5pm to 11pm on Jalan Sungai Ruil, Brinchang¹⁴.
• Tanah Rata is the main commercial and tourist town, and public buses from Tapah¹³ arrive there.
