Breakfast in Cameron Highlands: where to eat and prices
Malaysian breakfast dishes to try
Nasi lemak and roti canai are the classic local breakfasts. Cameron Highlands has Malay, Western, Indian and Chinese restaurants1, so you can eat local or stick to eggs and toast.
Prefer a fry-up? The Vibes reported in January 2023 that the Smokehouse offers a full or light English breakfast, with scrambled eggs or an egg-white omelette5.
For lunch, dinner and everything else on the plate, see the Cameron Highland food guide.
Where to get breakfast in Tanah Rata
The local breakfast spots named in the sources are in Tanah Rata, the main commercial and tourist town6. Both are cheap and both lean local.
Gerai Opah
Gerai Opah is a food stall at No.9, Gerai Makan Laluan Besar1, and Wikivoyage lists it for a kampung-style nasi lemak breakfast.
Yong Teng Cafe
Yong Teng Cafe is Wikivoyage’s pick for breakfast or lunch in Tanah Rata, with breakfast at RM6–101 (checked October 2026). It names the pancakes and the nasi lemak at RM71 as the dishes to order.
Yong Teng Cafe keeps longer hours than the stalls, open 7AM–5PM1, so a late breakfast still works.
Hotel breakfast prices and hours
Hotel breakfasts cost more than a café plate, and some room rates include breakfast while others charge for it.

Planning your breakfast morning
A little timing goes a long way up here, since the best local plates sell out and the tea estates are at their best early.
- Busy months: BOH Tea says November to January11 is high season, so arrive early at stalls that can sell out.
- Quieter months: BOH Tea names June and September11 as off-peak, good for avoiding crowds.
- Fresh fruit: Kea Farm’s produce stalls sell fruit and vegetables, including strawberries and sweet corn1, and open 7am–7pm daily12.
- Tea after breakfast: Wikivoyage calls Boh tea the drink of choice in the Highlands1, and BOH says early morning11 is the best time to visit its plantations.
Morning tours to book
If you’d rather not drive the hill roads after breakfast, a morning tour takes you out to the tea fields and the cloud forest. The cards show each tour’s price, length and rating.
