How we check facts

Updated October 2026

Where the facts come from

Every fact starts on a named public page. Official and government sites and the operators’ own sites come first. After those, the guide turns to booking agents, then Wikivoyage, Wikipedia and news reports.

Each fact is saved with a link to its source, a word-for-word quote from that page, the day it was read and the date it’s due a re-check. The quote is matched against the live page, so the fact stays tied to what the source really says. Guide pages are written from these stored facts and nothing else.

Following one fact

A fact is read on its source, saved with its quote, matched against the live page, then cited by number on each guide page that uses it. Here is one real fact from this site, exactly as it is stored:

Keeping facts current

This guide gets a fresh round of data checks at a regular interval, shown in the table below. Each round re-checks a batch of facts against their live sources, starting with the oldest and the ones most likely to change: prices, fees, timetables and opening months. It also tests the source links, the tour pages and the places to stay.

When a source no longer shows a fact, that fact is flagged, never quietly dropped. It is then updated from the source, moved to a better source, or taken off the page.

When sources disagree

If two sources give different answers, the page shows the range and names both. If something can’t be confirmed from a source, it stays out of the guide.

Tours, food, sights and stays

Tours are picked from each booking site’s list for Cameron Highlands. Each tour page is opened and checked before it is linked: its title has to name the place, and the page must not say the tour is unavailable. A tour whose page has gone is never linked. The booking site shown first is the one that listed the most tours here when the site was planned. The rest follow a fixed default order.

Cafés, restaurants and attractions are drawn from what Google Maps lists near the main towns and areas this guide covers. Each one was opened in a browser and checked before it is shown. The food table runs by area, then the places people search for by name, then Google Maps’ own search order. Its ratings are Google’s, each with the date it was read. Attractions run by area and by what people search for. Neither list is ever sorted by rating, and nobody paid to be on them.

For attractions, opening hours are Google’s. Entry fees, time to spend and notes for children appear only when a source states them. An attraction Google Maps lists as closed is left off.

Places to stay are the ones people search for by name, most searched first. Each card names the sources for its price, what’s included and who it suits. None has a booking link yet: a link is added only after it has been tested in a browser and the booking site has approved our account with it.

Driving times and distances between stops come from OpenRouteService routes, built on OpenStreetMap data, with no traffic included. Each is stored as a fact with its route as the source and stays valid for a year. Itineraries are plans built from these sources, not trip reports.

Who writes and who reviews

An AI model, Anthropic’s Claude, writes each guide page using only the stored facts. Every page then runs through automatic checks. The publisher reviews every page before it goes live and again after launch, and fixes whatever that review turns up.

Every guide page lists its sources, numbered next to the facts they support. Photos come from Wikimedia Commons and Pexels and are never AI-made; only the logo and favicon may be. Each photo is credited on the image credits page.

Latest changes

Every guide page also ends with its own page history.
