What you’ll find at the Butterfly Farm
Expect butterflies, insects and a few other animals, with plenty of chances for close-up photos. In Traveloka’s words, the farm is a paradise for butterflies and other animals at Kea Farm1.
What the Kea Farm butterfly attractions offer, according to Wikivoyage:
- Exhibits of many butterfly and insect species2.
- In the insect garden, a staff member takes the insects out so you can photograph them2.
- A shop on the top floor selling traditional handicrafts and fashion clothing2.
Butterfly Farm opening hours
The Butterfly Farm is open every day3 on its Google Maps listing, with later closing at the end of the week.
| Days | Hours on Google Maps |
|---|---|
| Monday to Thursday | 08:30–18:003 (checked October 2026) |
| Friday to Sunday | 08:30–19:003 |
Hours elsewhere differ: Traveloka gives 8.30am–6pm daily1. If you’re arriving late on a Friday or at the weekend, the shorter hours are the safer bet.

From Tanah Rata, the main tourist town, the tourist bus stops in Brinchang, Kea Farm, Tringkap and Kuala Terla2, so you can ride it straight to Kea Farm.
Cameron Highlands is reached only by road4, roughly 852 to 90 km5 from Ipoh. Buses from Kuala Lumpur’s Terminal Bersepadu Selatan to Tanah Rata take about 4½ hours2. The routes up from KL, Ipoh and Tapah are all on one page.
When is the best time to visit?
Go in the morning: start at the Kea Farm morning market, which runs from about 7 to 10.30am1, then head to the farm when it opens at 08:303.
For the time of year, here’s BOH Tea’s advice for Cameron Highlands as a whole:
| Months | What BOH Tea says |
|---|---|
| February to April6 | Best months to visit |
| November to January6 | High season, busiest around the holidays |
| June and September6 | Off-peak, good for avoiding crowds |
Days seldom go above 25 °C and nights can drop to 12 °C2, so bring a light layer for an early start.
Nearby at Kea Farm and Brinchang
The Butterfly Farm sits among a cluster of Kea Farm stops, so it’s easy to fold into a morning of them:
- Kea Farm market: the fresh produce market in Cameron Highlands at Kea Farm, 2 km north of Brinchang2.
- Flora Park: Flora Park near Kea Farm market is a 6-minute walk from Kea Farm Market7.
- The Sheep Sanctuary: at Kea Farm Market, behind Kea Valley Hotel, open 9am–5.30pm daily8.
- Rose Centre: at Rose Valley Village, Kea Farm, open 8AM–6PM daily2. Traveloka lists Rose Valley, a flower garden known for its roses1, as a nearby stop.
- Ee Feng Gu Honey Bee Farm: between Kea Farm and Tringkap, open 8AM–7PM, with free admission2.
- Kok Lim Self-Plucking Strawberry Farm: on Jalan Sungai Burung, between Kea Farm and Brinchang2. The Cameron Highlands strawberry farms guide covers the others.
Touring with children? The Agro Market is on Women’s Weekly’s list of things to do with kids9. It has parrots, lovebirds and Mandarin ducks and plenty of free parking9.
If animals are the theme of your day, add a visit to the Cat House in Brinchang. Basing yourself in Brinchang keeps all of these close, and there’s more on things to do in the highlands for the rest of your trip.
Tours that include a butterfly stop
Some day tours build a butterfly attraction into the route:
- Exotic Asia Holidays says its day tour from KL includes Butterfly Garden and Lavender Garden entrance fees10, plus a private vehicle and a driver-guide.
- Discover Camerons says its full-day tour visits a butterfly and insect farm, an orchid and rose garden, local markets and Sam Poh Temple11.
Ask the operator which butterfly attraction is on the route before you book.
Prefer to have the driving sorted? You can book a private or join-in day tour from Kuala Lumpur and ask before booking whether the Butterfly Farm can be added to the day.
