Tanah Rata: Tanah Rata Coronation Park, Animal Feeding Rainbow Garden, Parit waterfall, Cameron Valley Tea House 2. cameronhighlandstrip.com.

The list: tea, moss, farms and markets

Cameron Highlands, in Pahang, is at its best for tea gardens and trekking. Around them sit strawberry farms, flower gardens, cactus nurseries and markets, most of them a short hop from Brinchang.

BOH Sungai Palas tea garden

A tea plantation is the classic outing here, and BOH and Bharat are the estates best set up for visitors. BOH’s Sungai Palas garden is at 39100 Brinchang and opens Tuesday to Sunday, 8.30am to 4.30pm1 (checked October 2026).

BOH says its factory tours are open1, and Wikivoyage lists the tours as free2. It suits anyone, including people who only want a pot of tea with a view.

Cameron Valley Tea House (Bharat tea plantation)

The Bharat estate is on the Tanah Rata side, toward Ringlet2, which makes it the easy tea stop if you’re staying in Tanah Rata. Wikivoyage calls Cameron Bharat Tea Plantation the second-largest tea producer in Malaysia2.

Day tours from KL stop here on the way up: Exotic Asia Holidays’ tour calls at Lata Iskandar Waterfall and Bharat Tea Plantation, with a buggy ride3.

Mossy Forest on Mount Brinchang

The Mossy Forest is a boardwalk through the forest at the top of Gunung Brinchang2, the peak that takes Cameron Highlands up to 2,032 m4. A paved road climbs Mount Brinchang, the highest accessible road in Peninsular Malaysia5.

Pelago advises taking a local, approved jeep up to the Nova Highlands Hotel6 to reach the boardwalk. Excellent Transport gives last entry at 4pm and closing at 5pm7.

Tours make the jeep question go away: Klook’s half-day Mossy Forest tour and the half-day Mossy Forest and tea plantation tour both include it, and there are more on the Cameron Highlands day tours page. For entry rules and the walk itself, see Mossy Forest fees, hours and jeep access.

Hiking trails from Tanah Rata

Hiking in Cameron Highlands starts in Tanah Rata, the starting point for Gunung Beremban, the Bharat tea plantations and most of the numbered trails. Check which ones are open before you set out:

  • Trail 10 is a day hike through an ancient mossy forest, about 1.5 hours2 to Gunung Jasar.
  • Trail 1 was closed by the government, as of July 20192.
  • The Star reported that in September 2024 the Gunung Irau trail was off limits8 because of uprooted trees.
  • Parit Waterfall has two ways in, one from the Forestry Department, but Wikivoyage warns the view is poor because the river is full of rubbish2.

Strawberry farms around Brinchang

Brinchang is the base for most of the farms. Big Red Strawberry Farm, one of the largest agro-tourism farms in Malaysia, is within walking distance of Brinchang town and opens 8:30AM to 6PM on weekdays and 9AM to 6PM at weekends2.

On a tour, check whether picking is included: on Oastel’s half-day trip, strawberry picking is optional and paid directly to the farm9.

Kea Farm market and the Sheep Sanctuary

Kea Farm market, 2 km north of Brinchang, is where you buy fresh vegetables and fruit, including strawberries and sweet corn2. Kea Farm, at 1,610 m, is the highest settlement in Peninsular Malaysia10.

The Sheep Sanctuary is a small farm at Kea Farm Market, behind Kea Valley Hotel, open 9am to 5.30pm daily11. If you like animals, add the cats: see the Cat House Cameron Highlands guide.

Cameron Highlands Flora Park and Hobbiton Village

Flora Park is a flower park a 6-minute walk from Kea Farm Market, with shuttle buses from its parking area to the park12. SAYS listed it as open 9.30am to 7pm13, but the park gives its last call as 5.30pm12, so arrive well before that.

Hobbiton Village inside Flora Park is a private area and not open for regular walk-in visits14. Its high-tea sessions run 11am to 1pm and 3pm to 5pm, with Flora Park entrance for 2 people included14.

Don’t confuse it with Hobbitoon Village in Perak, a 30-minute drive from Cameron Highlands, which Mothership reported in January 2024 as open 9am to 6pm daily15.

Lavender Garden

The Lavender Garden (Cameron Lavender) opens 9am to 6pm Monday to Thursday and 9am to 7pm Friday to Sunday13. For what’s there and how to find it, read the Cameron Highlands Lavender Garden guide.

Butterfly farms at Kea Farm

The Cameron Highlands Butterfly Farm is at 43rd Miles, Kea Farm13, next to the Butterfly Garden, with similar exhibits of many butterfly and insect species2. Both have a shop on the top floor selling handicrafts and clothing2.

With exhibits that alike, one of the two is enough for most visits. The butterfly farm visit guide covers the details.

Bee farm, cactus nurseries and roses

These smaller stops cluster around Kea Farm and Brinchang, so they fit between the bigger sights:

  • Ee Feng Gu Bee Farm: between Kea Farm and Tringkap, and free2 to enter.
  • Cactus Valley: at Pekan Lama, Brinchang, within walking distance of the town2. Wikivoyage rates its collection one of the best in Malaysia2.
  • Cactus Point: on a hill slope, selling almost every type of cactus, about 500 m from Kea Farm2.
  • Rose Centre: at Rose Valley Village, Kea Farm2.

Time Tunnel Museum

The Time Tunnel Museum is on Jalan Sungai Burung, Brinchang13, and Wikivoyage lists it as open 9AM to 6PM2. Check it’s still running before you make a special trip.

Sam Poh Temple

Sam Poh Temple sits just south of Brinchang2. Wikivoyage says it was built in 1972 and is the fourth-largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia2.

Night markets and steamboat

Brinchang’s night market, opposite the police station, opens on Friday and Saturday nights, and every day in the holiday season and on public holidays2. Pelago lists the Golden Hills night market on Jalan Sungai Ruil, Brinchang, open Friday and Saturday, 5pm to 11pm6.

For dinner on a cold night, try steamboat, a pot of boiling soup where you cook your own meat and vegetables2. Wikivoyage suggests Restoran Mayflower in Tanah Rata, open 9AM to 3PM and 5PM to 10:30PM2.

Further out: Rafflesia, Lata Iskandar and MARDI

  • Rafflesia: the world’s largest flower, at a site in Blue Valley about an hour’s drive2 from the towns.
  • Lata Iskandar Waterfall: on the road up, and a regular stop on KL day tours3.
  • MARDI Agro-technology Park: opposite Tanah Rata Hospital2.

Where are the attractions in Cameron Highlands?

Most sights sit between Brinchang and Kea Farm, 2 km2 to the north. Bharat tea and most trails are on the Tanah Rata side, about 4 km2 from Brinchang.
